Fix phone voice call problems
A call that reaches a demo assistant, a Call me now button that won't start, a PIN that won't take, or a callback that never arrives. Each symptom has one cause, and this maps them.
Find your symptom#
| What happened | Cause |
|---|---|
| The assistant doesn't know your email or drafts | You called from an unverified number |
| Call me now shows Set a phone voice PIN first | No PIN on the account |
| The call asks for a PIN you don't remember | A PIN was set earlier |
| An email arrives saying "We couldn't reach you by phone" | A callback didn't connect |
| The call won't start, or it cut off around an hour | Voice quota or the per-session cap |
| The Call by phone button isn't in Chat | The composer isn't empty, or setup isn't finished |
Each of those has its own section below, in the same order.
You reached a demo assistant#
The voice picked up but had no idea who you are and couldn't touch your Gmail. You called from a number that isn't verified on your account. Unverified callers reach the public demo assistant by design, and it has no access to your data.
Verify the number you actually call from. Go to Settings > Voice access, stay on the Access tab, enter that number, click Send code, and type the code from the text. See Set up phone voice access.
Watch for the number you dial from being different from the one you verified. A work mobile, a second line, or a carrier that presents a different outbound number will all land you in the demo.
Call me now won't start#
The button says Set a phone voice PIN first and offers a Set up a phone PIN link. The callback won't place a call to an account with no PIN.
Follow the link, or go to Settings > Voice access > Access, click Set PIN, enter six digits, confirm them, and click Save Settings. The row then reads PIN set, and Call me now works on the next try.
The PIN isn't working#
Dial-in asks you to Enter your six digit phone voice PIN and won't accept what you're entering. There's no way to look up an existing PIN, so set a new one: Settings > Voice access > Access, then Change PIN.
Enter the digits on your phone keypad rather than saying them out loud. Then click Save Settings.
The callback never arrived#
You got an email titled "We couldn't reach you by phone", or you asked for a callback and nothing rang. dreamif.ai tried your verified number and the call didn't connect.
Check these:
- Your phone had signal and wasn't in Do Not Disturb or airplane mode.
- The verified number on the Access tab is the number you're holding.
- A call blocker or spam filter on your carrier or handset isn't screening unknown numbers. Save the dreamif.ai Voice contact card from the Contact tab so the call arrives with a name attached.
Then try Call me now again, or dial in yourself instead of waiting for a callback.
You ran out of voice time#
Phone minutes and browser voice minutes come out of the same quota, 2 hours per billing period on Plus and unlimited on Pro. A long call earlier in the month is enough to block a new one.
Separately, one call stops at 60 minutes regardless of plan. If the line dropped somewhere near the hour mark, that's the per-session cap and not your quota. Call back to start a fresh session.
Check the Voice meter under This billing period on the Usage page, from the avatar menu. See Voice limit reached.
There's no Call by phone button#
Call by phone replaces Send in Chat only when the composer is empty and phone access is set up. Clear anything you've typed and look again.
If it still isn't there, finish setup on Settings > Voice access. You can always dial the number from the Contact tab in the meantime.
The app stalls on "Completing sign in"#
Returning to the app after a phone session passes through a handoff page reading Completing sign in, then Sign in complete. Redirecting.... Give it a few seconds. If it doesn't move, reload the page and go to Chat directly, where the call transcript is waiting.
