Set your speaking style

Tell dreamif.ai how to talk to you out loud: shorter or longer answers, more or less detail, casual or formal. The field is Speaking style on Settings > Voice access > Instructions, and it governs browser voice and phone calls alike.

Where the setting lives#

  1. Go to Settings > Voice access.
  2. Open the Instructions tab.
  3. Write your guidance in the Speaking style field.
  4. Click Save Settings.

The field holds up to 4,000 characters. Reset to Default at the bottom of the page clears it back to stock behavior.

What to write#

Plain English works. Describe what you want the way you'd tell a new assistant on their first day:

Keep spoken answers brief and use a calm, direct tone. Don't repeat back what I said unless I ask. When reading a draft, summarize it instead of reading it word for word.

Things worth spelling out:

  • How long answers should be, and whether you want a summary or the full text when it reads something back.
  • The tone you want, from casual through formal.
  • How it should handle an ambiguous request, like guessing and telling you versus asking first.
  • Names and terms it keeps mishearing, spelled the way you say them.

It applies to phone calls too#

The same field governs browser voice in Chat and calls placed to your assistant's phone number. Write it once and both behave the same way. See Set up phone voice access.

What it won't change#

Confirmations stay in place whatever you write here. Sends, draft rewrites, calendar changes, and notes are all staged and wait for you to say "confirm", even if your instructions tell dreamif.ai to just get on with it. See How voice confirmations work.

Speaking style also isn't where you shape the emails dreamif.ai writes. That lives on Settings > AI preferences > Replies, in the Writing sub-tab. See Customize drafting style and behavior.

Start a voice session
Voice runs inside Chat. Click the microphone button in the composer, wait for the status to read Listening, and speak. Mute, Stop, and the session countdown sit in the same bar.
Set up phone voice access
Verify your mobile number and set a six-digit PIN on Settings > Voice access, and you can reach the same assistant from an ordinary phone call. Phone minutes come out of the same voice quota as Chat.
How voice confirmations work
Anything that changes your Gmail, calendar, contacts, or settings is staged first. Say "confirm" to let it through, or press Send in the draft panel. There's no pop-up dialog to click.

What AI Preferences Can And Cannot Change
AI preferences control how dreamif.ai writes, when it drafts, and which tools it may use. They do not override safety rules, Google permissions, or confirmation before a send.
