Unsaved Draft Changes In Chat
Chat holds you in place while a draft edit is still in flight. Wait for "Draft saved", send the draft, or discard your edits to clear the warning.
What the warning says#
You will see this message:
"You have unsaved draft changes. Save or send this draft before moving on."
When it appears#
Chat shows the warning when the editor has edits that are not stored yet and you try to:
- switch to a different chat thread
- open another page inside the app
- hide the draft editor
How to clear it#
Pick whichever fits what you were doing:
- Wait a moment for the status to read "Draft saved". Your text is in the Gmail draft and you can move on.
- Click Send if the draft is ready to go out.
- Click Discard to roll back to the last autosaved version and drop what you typed since.
If the status reads "Autosave delayed", the save failed rather than finished. Check your connection and give it a moment, since Chat retries on its own.
Opening Gmail is still allowed#
Open in Gmail is never blocked by this warning. Use it to see exactly what Gmail has stored while your newest edits are still saving.
