Understand Chat Confirmations

Sending a draft#

The Send button in the draft editor is the confirmation. There is no second dialog and no card asking you to approve. Click it and the email goes out.

Once the send completes, Chat writes "I sent that draft." into the conversation. That message is the receipt.

Saving draft edits#

Draft edits autosave. The status label in the editor tells you where they stand: "Saving…", then "Draft saved", or "Autosave delayed" if a save failed. Chat does not post a chat message when a draft saves, so read the status label rather than waiting for a reply. See Edit and send drafts from Chat.

Staged actions#

When you ask Chat in a message to change something instead of clicking a control, Chat stages the action and describes it in its reply. Nothing happens until you answer.

Staged actions cover:

• sending a draft
• rewriting draft text
• calendar events and holds
• Gmail labels
• contact notes
• nurture changes
• settings changes

The reply ends with the same instruction each time:

• "Reply confirm to apply it, or cancel to stop."
• "There is still a staged action pending. Reply confirm to apply it, or cancel to stop." if you moved on without answering.
• "A draft change is still staged. Reply confirm to apply it, or tell me to adjust or discard it." for a pending rewrite of draft text.

Reply "confirm" to run it. Reply "cancel" to drop it. For a staged draft rewrite you can also tell Chat what to change instead, and it restages the action with your correction.

If you are not sure something happened#

1. Read back through the thread for the receipt or the staged-action line.
2. For a send, check Gmail Sent.
3. For a draft, check Gmail Drafts or click Open in Gmail from the editor.

Chat does not send email silently. Every send comes from either the Send button or a staged action you confirmed.
